How To Upload File On Canvas

Uploading a File to Your Course

By default, you are given 1000 MB (1 GB) of storage infinite within your Canvas course, which allows you to upload files to share with your course and students.

This course storage differs from group and personal storage quotas. Please refer to our "Understanding Files and File Storage Quotas in Sheet" article for more than information on each storage type.

If yous have reached the 1000 MB (1 GB) limit in your Canvas form, you may contact canvass@yale.edu to increase storage size upwards to a limit of 2000 MB (2.1 GB). Whatever larger limits may require a consult to evaluate file storage usage.

Information technology is advised that media files should exist uploaded into the Media Library tool in your Canvas class. For other alternatives, please refer to our "Best Practices for File Storage" commodity.

Uploading a New File

  1. In the Class Navigation, click on "Files."

  1. In the summit-correct corner, click the "Upload" button.

  1. In the window pop-upward that opens to search your estimator's files, click the title of the file you want to upload and click the "Open" push button.

  1. You can also add to your Canvass "Files" area past dragging and dropping the item from a file window (i.e. your desktop or downloads folder) directly into the Canvas file repository.
    1. Left-click the title of the file you wish to add and drag the file to your open browser. Your file will automatically upload.

Uploading a Indistinguishable / New Version of a File

If a file with the aforementioned proper name already exists in the binder where you lot are uploading your file, you will be asked if you want to replace or rename information technology.

  1. To create a duplicate of the file with the same name, click the "Change Name" button.
    1. This pick volition create a duplicate copy of the file with a dissimilar name.
  2. To upload the files as a new version of the existing file, click the "Replace" push.
    1. This replaces the existing file with the new one and updates anything linking to information technology with the new file.

Confirming Upload and View of a File

  1. A progress bar will appear at the top of screen tracking the progress of your file upload.

  1. Once the upload is completed, you can view the file by clicking on the file name.
